Col. Ted Westhusing suicide or Murdered?
The Army would conclude that he committed suicide with his service pistol. At the time, he was the highest-ranking officer to die in Iraq.
The Army closed its case. But the questions surrounding Westhusing's death continue.
"He was sick of money-grubbing contractors," the official recounted.
Westhusing said that "he had not come over to Iraq for this."
Westhusing's family and friends are troubled that he died at Camp Dublin, where he was without a bodyguard, surrounded by the same contractors he suspected of wrongdoing. They wonder why the manager who discovered Westhusing's body and picked up his weapon was not tested for gunpowder residue.

Dahr Jamail, an unembedded journalist who had been reporting from Iraq during the past year, narrated the story told to him by Ali Shalal Abbas from Baghdad. While detained at Abu Ghraib and tortured, Abbas was approached by two men, "one a foreigner and one a translator," who asked him who he was. "I said I'm a human being. They told me, "We are going to cut your head off and send you to hell, we will take you to Guantánamo." Abbas questioned why only Saddam Hussein, who also had people tortured, was put on trial while the Americans were not.
This gripping but unsettling revelation came on the second day of proceedings at the World Tribunal on Iraq, held in Istanbul, Turkey, which is collecting evidence of war crimes in Iraq.

Each offence carries a prison sentence of up to 14 years.

During our week-long exchange with Iraqis, we heard allegations of US atrocities
that made Abu Graib seem like childish pranks: a woman raped in full view of other
prisoners, who is now seeking permission from religious leaders to kill herself;
a seven-year-old girl, left momentarily in the car while her father stopped at
the market, screaming and clawing at the window while a US tank crushed the
vehicle; a mother watching in horror as the troops raided her home in the
middle of the night, shot her son in the chest and then stomped on him as
he bled to death.
In Fallujah alone, thousands of civilians were killed in one brutal week.
We wept together as we saw gruesome pictures of bodies burned beyond recognition,
possibly from the use of napalm, and limbs eaten by dogs because anyone trying
to retrieve the dead would be shot. A young Iraqi woman who risked her life
taking our humanitarian aid to those too old and infirm to flee was still
traumatized by the devastation she witnessed.

CIA Whites Out Controversial Estimate on Iraq Weapons;
Washington D.C., 9 July 2004 - The CIA has decided to keep almost entirely secret the
controversial October 2002 CIA intelligence estimate about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction
that is the subject of today's Senate Intelligence Committee report, according to the CIA's
June 1, 2004 response to a Freedom of Information Act request from the National Security Archive.
The CIA's response included a copy of the estimate, NIE 2002-16HC, October 2002, Iraq's
Continuing Programs for Weapons of Mass Destruction, consisting almost entirely of
whited-out pages. Only 14 of the 93 pages provided actually contained text, and all of
the text except for the two title pages and the two pages listing National Intelligence
Council members had previously been released in July 2003. At that time, CIA responded
to the first round of controversy over the Niger yellowcake story by declassifying the
"Key Findings" section of the estimate and a few additional paragraphs...
